Overview

Tongaat Hulett Sugar South Africa has a proud history in South Africa that goes back to its beginnings in the 19th century. In April 1982, Tongaat Hulett was formed with the merger of the Tongaat Group and the Huletts Corporation.

In South Africa, Tongaat Hulett Sugar South Africa operates four sugar mills (Maidstone, Darnall, Amatikulu and Felixton), a central refinery situated in Durban, an animal feeds operation (Voermol) and extensive cane farming estates.

The four Tongaat Hulett Sugar South Africa mills are situated on the KwaZulu-Natal North coast, an area producing in excess of 10 million tons of cane in a normal season, with prospects for future expansion. Tongaat Hulett Sugar South Africa with its resources, technical excellence and competencies in sugar milling and refining is likely to be the driving force in facilitating major improvements in the competitiveness of this 10 million tons. In terms of sheer size, this region produces more sugar than any other SADC country and therefore offers good scope to leverage existing investments and returns.
